Position Ranking
Position Ranking captures the order in which a brand is mentioned within an AI-generated recommendation list. Being first matters because users typically act on the top two results.
How It's Calculated
Each AI response is parsed for brand mentions. The earliest mention receives rank 1, the next rank 2, and so on. If the brand is not mentioned, it has no rank for that response. XAudient averages the ranks across all responses where the brand appears to produce an average position reported in Prediction Landscape outputs.
Position Weighting
XAudient applies a diminishing weight curve when translating ranks into scores:
- Position 1 → 1.0
- Position 2 → 0.8
- Position 3 → 0.6
- Position 4 → 0.4
- Position 5 or later → 0.3
- Mentioned, no position → 0.2
These weights feed WSAV, documented in the SAV specification. SAV itself counts every mention equally.
Optimization Tips
- Strengthen differentiators on comparison pages so AI models surface the brand earlier.
- Update structured data and metadata to clarify category leadership.
- Ensure customer stories cite concrete outcomes that models can quote.
- Provide pricing, packaging, or niche use cases that justify first mention placement.
